Max Bowman, 83, of Fishers and formerly of Pickard, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.
Born March 21, 1938 in Hamilton County, Indiana, he was the son of the late Wilbur Doyle "Wib" and Mary Maxine (Walker) Bowman.
Mr. Bowman was a 1956 graduate of Sugar Creek High School where he played basketball and ran track. He would later take courses at Purdue University extension.
He retired from Firestone after 30 years of work there as a machinist. A few years into his career he, along with a few of his co-workers, began the first steps of what would soon become the first credit union in Noblesville -the United Rubber Workers Credit Union. Mr. Bowman was their treasurer, as well as their first depositor of record. The name was then changed to the Noblesville Federal Credit Union. He then worked for City of Firsts Federal Credit Union.
He farmed with his father-in-law. He attended the Indianapolis 500 on a regular basis and in his later life, he followed NASCAR races. He enjoyed snowmobiling, woodworking and golf.
His memberships the United Rubber Workers and the Hills Baptist Church. The activity that kept him young was spending time with his family.
After the passing of Max's first wife, Faye, he married a second time.
Survivors include his wife Karen J. (Steinmetz) Bowman; daughters, Kim (Keith) Sanborn of Westfield, Anita (Jerry) Morgan of Carmel, and Lori (John) Wardlow of Westfield; step-daughter, Kim (Tom) Gilles of Elwood; grandchildren, Ben (Iana) Sanborn, Cassandra (Tim) Sanborn Loyer, Jeremy (Christy) Hackerd and Claire Wardlow; step-grandchildren, Ryan Wilson and Sarah (Joe) Loza; great-grandchildren, Cirilla Sanborn, Teddy Hackerd, Jensen Loza and Camellia Loza; brothers, Dale (Karen), Glen (Carla), Rex (Julie), Mark (Sharon), Paul (Debbie), Carl (Nancy) and Gene Bowman; his sister, Lois Sheets; and many, many, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Bowman and Nancy Bowman; step-grandson, Tyler Wilson; step-great-granddaughter, Ambriel Loza; and by his first wife, Faye Joan (Merrill) Bowman on Nov. 22, 1998.
Private Funeral Services are planned for Wednesday, May, 26. Family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday evening, May 25, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St. in Sheridan. Burial is set at Hills Cemetery
