John Ray Patrick, 76 Sheridan, passed away April 13, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Patrick was born Feb. 16, 1943 to the late Augusta and Mary Bell (White) Patrick in White County, Illinois.

He graduated from Carmi-White County High School, Class of 1961. He met the love of his life Brenda Gail (Sweezer) Patrick and they were married on Aug. 9, 1964 in Cynthiana, Ind and have been at each other’s side for 54 years.

Mr. Patrick retired in 2010 from Doyle Equipment after working for them for 30 years.

He was a proud Republican. After his retirement he decided to run for Adam Township Trustee on the Republican ticket. He won his election and ran again and won a second term and it appeared that he started a second career. Mr. Patrick looked forward to his morning card games and daily news at the Sheridan car wash wher  the crew would gather every morning.

He was a dedicated Sheridan Blackhawks football fan and rarely missed a game. He enjoyed his vacations with his wife in Branson, Missouri. They enjoyed seeing shows, especially anything that had blue grass gospel music. Mr. Patrick loved his St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR. He always looked forward to the annual trip to Bristol to watch the NASCAR race with the Sheridan car wash crew. He was an umpire with the Indiana High School Athletic Association. He also played in men’s softball leagues. He loved sports whether playing them or watching them. He never met a stranger everyone that crossed his path. After having a conversation with him, he would make you feel like you’ve known each other for years.

Mr. Patrick's greatest joy was his family especially his grandchildren whom he was very proud of.

Survivors include his devoted wife Brenda of 54 years; his loving daughter Melody Kimmell of Sheridan; grandchildren Mary (Robert) Bell of New Ross, Rebekah (Zach) Sanders of Kirklin, Cameron Kimmell of Sheridan, Payten Kimmell of Sheridan and Reagan Kimmell of Sheridan; great-grandchildren Eleanor and Oscar Sanders; and his daughter-in-law Marcy Patrick of Shelbyville.

He was preceded in death byhis brothers Byrd L. and Dan Patrick, his daughter Jill Patrick in 2006 and his son the Rev. David Patrick in 2011.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday April 16, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Sheridan United Methodist Church, 207 E. 2nd St. in Sheridan. Family and friends may pay their respects at the church from 11 until the service. Burial will take place Saturday April 20, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Big Prairie Cemetery in Carmi, Ill.
