James Robert "Bob" Hopkins, 85, Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, May 18, 2021 at Riverview Health in Noblesville.
He was born Nov. 2, 1935 in Indianapolis and was the son of the late Lloyd and Lillian (Flint) Hopkins.
Mr. Hopkins was a 1955 graduate of Sheridan High School and served his country in the U.S. Army. After his time in the military, he worked for 32 years as a Customer Service Specialist with Eli Lilly in Indianapolis.
On June 21, 1959, he married his high-school sweetheart, Janet Carol (Spencer) Hopkins. Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins had a happy marriage of 62 years.
They loved traveling and had many adventures throughout the United States and Europe. Always fans of warm weather, they lived the snowbird lifestyle for 25 years wintering in Haines City, Fla. Back in Indiana for the summers, you could usually find Mr. Hopkins out in the garden with Mrs. Hopkins, planting their various vegetables and flowers. On the rare occasion he was not in the garden, he was usually tinkering in the shop on various projects, playing countless hands of euchre, visiting his friends and family or enjoying another season of Colts football. Whatever Mr. Hopkins was doing, you were sure to find Mrs. Hopkins nearby as they rarely spent moments apart.
He was a man of strong faith. He led his family through example of Christ-like love, kindness, and devotion. He was a member of Six Points Church in Sheridan. Family always came first. He loved being a part of his children's lives and never missed an opportunity to spoil his grandkids,
Survivors, other than his wife, include two wonderful children, Kimberly Leap of Michigan City and James Robert "Jim" (Trudy) Hopkins, Jr. of Sheridan; grandchildren, Alexandra “Allie” (Hopkins) Lanae (David) Jones of Indianapolis and James Robert “Rob” Hopkins, III of Sheridan; his bonus granddaughter, Sanda Batrincea of Moldova; sister, Mable Clark; brother-in-law, Fred (Sandra) Spencer; sisters-in-law, Sandy Spencer and Nancy Hensley; and his special cat and feline buddy, Tiger Bob.
